This program funds research that analyzes existing data on substance use, substance use disorder, and related HIV outcomes, including studies using neuroimaging, behavioral, social science, health services, and other available datasets. It does not allow new primary data collection or clinical trials. A wide range of organizations may apply, including nonprofits, universities, governments, small businesses, for-profit organizations, tribal organizations, faith-based and community-based organizations, and foreign organizations, and foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed. NIDA plans to commit $2 million in FY 2026 for 2-4 awards, with an additional $2 million for 2-4 awards focused on HIV research under this announcement and a companion R21 notice. There is no cost sharing requirement, and the maximum project period is 5 years.
