This program funds basic, mechanistic R01 research on the biological and genetic causes of cancer health disparities, including studies of cancer biology, prevention, new methods and models, secondary data analyses, and technology development. It is open to a wide range of U.S. and foreign organizations, including nonprofits, universities, governments, tribal entities, small businesses, and foreign organizations, and foreign components of U.S. organizations are allowed. There is no cost sharing requirement. Awards are limited to projects up to 5 years, application budgets are not limited, and the number of awards depends on NIH appropriations and the quality of applications. Studies must address cancer health disparities and race/ethnicity and/or other social determinants with biological mechanisms; studies focused only on age or sex disparities, or non-biological behavioral/social/environmental studies, are not responsive, and clinical trials are not allowed.
